Barber shop to be ‘guys only’ retreat with Austar and pool
MEN, imagine a place where you can go in for a haircut and stick around to watch a game of football on Austar and play some pool.
This is Libbie Cassidy's vision - a barber shop free of any women's influence - the complete "guys escape".
"My partner and I have always dreamed of opening a barber's shop," she said.
"It's going to be decorated so it's a real man's retreat.
"It seems to be something that's really taken off."
Already Libbie has had seven job applications, and is blown away by the response she has received.
She has organised for experienced hairdressers Clive Allwright and Nathan Yip to come to Rockhampton from Sydney to train the staff - all male - in barbering.
Clive counts celebrity chef Jamie Oliver among his clients, while Nathan styles the hair of X Factor host Luke Jacobz.
Libbie is currently the area manager of RnA Hair Salon and The Wax Shack, which are both owned by her mother Robyn Cassidy.
For a long time they wanted to amalgamate the two businesses so they could look after hair and beauty in the same store, but could never find suitable premises.
After the discount chemist next door to The Wax Shack closed they decided to finally combine the stores, giving Libbie the opportunity to open her barber store.
