Bashed grandmother critical

THE elderly Rockhampton woman severely bashed by an attacker in her yard on Australia Day was still in a critical condition yesterday afternoon.

She remained on life support in the intensive care ward at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The woman, 82, has suffered brain damage from the attack and doctors have said it’s unlikely she would make a full recovery.

A teenager, 18, was arrested after a police manhunt and charged with a number of offences including attempted murder.

He is also accused of two counts of rape, theft and entering a premises. He is in custody.
