Bayton awardee naming tonight at Rockhampton Art Gallery

THE winner of the prestigious Bayton Award will be announced tonight at the Rockhampton Art Gallery exhibition's official opening.

The award is a biennial, non-acquisitive prize celebrating the diversity and excitement of visual arts in Central Queensland.

Sixty-one finalists have been selected from a field of 113 entries to be in the running for the $5000 award.

Finalists will also be in the running to win the $1000 People's Choice Award sponsored by CQUniversity.

The Right Reverend John Bayton, AM, who the award is named after, will judge this year's entries.

They will then be displayed at the art gallery, on Victoria Pde, from Saturday until July 7.

The Bayton Award is a joint initiative between the Rockhampton Art Gallery Trust, Rockhampton Art Gallery, and Rockhampton Regional Council.
