INSTAGRAM users have been invited to be part of a record attempt for the biggest Instameet in the world on Saturday, October 4, which is designed to encourage travellers to visit the region.
Fraser Coast Opportunities acting general manager Robbie Cornelius said the two local Instameets were part of a statewide record attempt being staged by Tourism and Events Queensland.
He said one Instameet would be held on the beach between Torquay and Scarness and the other would be held at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.
He said the first Instameet at the wildlife sanctuary would be held from 10-11am while the second would begin at 4pm near Aquavue Cafe and Watersports.
Participants at the Hervey Bay Instameet would walk along the beach to Scarness, taking and posting photos along the way, and be provided refreshments at Enzo's on the Beach, Mr Cornelius said.
He said the idea was to showcase the Fraser Coast and inspire Instagram users to visit the region.
"At last count, Instagram had more than 150 million monthly users and a recent poll of Facebook users found that over half say that seeing friends' holiday pictures had inspired them to book a holiday to that destination," Mr Cornelius said.
"This event will allows us to share the Fraser Coast with the wide world of Instagram.
"It is a great chance for us to leverage off some great national and international exposure."
The Fraser Coast Instameets are two of 50 being staged across the state from sunrise on Saturday, October 4, until the following morning.
As part of the campaign, Tourism and Events Queensland was bringing some of the world's best professional Instagrammers to join in the Instameet at various locations.
Co-hosting the Fraser Coast Instameet are Jewels Lynch from @jewelszee who has 68,000 followers and German Instagrammer Sebastian Spasic from @akusepp who has 285,000 followers.
To participate, people will need a smart phone with the Instagram app, join in the Fraser Coast Instameet, take a few photos and upload them to Instagram tagging #thisisqueensland.
