Beale knocked out by training mishap

RUGBY UNION: Waratahs star Kurtley Beale has been ruled out of the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens with an elbow injury.

Beale suffered the injury in training last week and it has not responded to treatment as hoped.

"I'm absolutely gutted that I won't be able to take the field,” Beale said yesterday.

"I've been looking to this tournament from the moment I re-signed with the Waratahs.

"It was going to be a real highlight of the season, so I'm bitterly disappointed to miss out.”

Beale will travel with the Waratahs and continue to perform his promotional duties as one of the tournament's ambassadors.

Tournament chief Rachael Carroll said Beale had advised organisers on Tuesday evening that he had been ruled out on medical advice.

"We've received a medical certificate confirming his unavailability,” Carroll said.

"It's a really unfortunate situation.

"We feel for Kurtley and for fans who were looking forward to seeing him back in action in a Waratahs jersey.

"But with players like Curtis Rona and Drew Mitchell lining up there is no shortage of star quality in what is a very strong Waratahs squad.

"Kurtley has been a great ambassador for the tournament.

"We've loved working with him and will continue to do so this weekend.”

The tournament will be played at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow and Saturday.
