Expo set to get federal funding

FEDERAL Minister Joe Ludwig is due in Rockhampton this morning when he is expected to announce funding for next year's Beef Australia expo.

The agriculture minister will make a formal statement at a joint press conference with Beef Australia chairman Geoff Murphy.

The economic benefit of the expo was estimated at $50m in 2009. It relies on federal funding to go ahead.

It is held in Rockhampton every three years and attracts more than 75,000 local, interstate and international visitors.

Over 4000 cattle from 30 breeds will compete in stud cattle judging events.

Next year's event begins with an international genetics conference on May 6 before finishing with the Beef Ball on May 12.
