READER'S VIEW: Beefworld would provide many positives for CQ
REGARDING a text published Thursday, November 26, I would like to reply to that message.
The writer suggested that the person proposing "Beefworld" must be dreaming, Well, if this is a fact, then I hope he continues to dream and make it a reality. See the Beefworld story here: Welcome to 'Beefworld': Gracemere retiree's plan
I know of the effort that he has put into this "dream" and know that though he is not wealthy, he is not thinking of making a vast wealth from the plan.
His ambition is spurred on by the wish to provide a place for those involved in horses, country music and country life, a permanent place to enjoy these things. At the same time he wishes to provide somewhere for others to see and experience the same experience and get away from the pressure of modern life.
He has a love for the country style and misses the closeness that country people have, the mateship and friendliness that we all once experienced, and wishes that more could enjoy this.
Of course, if Rockhampton doesn't want this and the opportunities such a complex can bring in - jobs and riches, both in money and wellbeing - I guess he could always go somewhere else where people are more appreciative of his "dream".
In closing, I would suggest that we all look at the empty houses that can't be rented, the houses that can't be sold as people move out of town, the businesses that are closed or closing, and look at the people who could have been employed, saying to them, 'Sorry, we just didn't believe it would work'.
