TODAY  Rockhampton's Bell of Peace from Saint Paul's Cathedral rang at 1pm for one hour, in memory of lives senselessly lost in Paris.

The bell cast in 1947 bears the inscription "When I Paul ring, peace to the world I bring".

Dean of St Paul's Cathedral Father Lindsay Howie said his decision to ring the bells was to show a sign of peace for Paris while the world was in mourning.

"As people of Rockhampton, there's little we can do but pray and keep them in our thoughts," Father Lindsay said.

"But I felt as a city we needed to say something and offer something to those who have died."
