Ben Simmons getting his own TV show

AUSTRALIAN basketball superstar Ben Simmons is going Hollywood and he can thank his unique Aussie family for providing the inspiration.

US TV network NBC is planning to make a comedy TV series titled Brotherly Love based on Simmons' big, multiracial family.

Simmons and his brother Sean Tribe will be consulting producers and NBA great LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment production company is behind the series.

Simmons grew up in a Brady Bunch-type family in Australia after his father, US-born basketballer Dave Simmons, moved to Australia to play with the NBL's Melbourne Tigers.

Dave fell in love and married Tigers cheerleader Julie, who was divorced and had four children.

The couple then had Ben and his sister Olivia. Brotherly Love is expected to be set in Philadelphia. Simmons plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.

"Brotherly Love is inspired by the life of Ben Simmons and centres on a unique sibling relationship within a multiethnic family," Deadline reported.

"Together, they pursue their dreams while navigating life in the spotlight in Philadelphia, a passionate city where sports is in your blood, and your blood is always boiling."

NBC has given a script commitment.

James has become Simmons' self described big brother, encouraging him to sign with his Klutch Sports Group management agency when he turned professional two years ago.

James and his longtime business partner Maverick Carter will be executive producers on the series.

James, who this year joined the Los Angeles Lakers, is becoming a Hollywood mogul with SpringHill's TV series portfolio including game show The Wall on NBC, The Shopon on HBO, Do or Dare on Facebook Watch and the upcoming docu series Warriors of Liberty City on Starz.
