Best of luck Karmichael
CODE hopper Karmichael Hunt has support from two very unlikely sources.
Dual football internationals Wendall Sailor and Lote Tuqiri know a thing or two about switching codes.
And both hope Hunt’s move to the Gold Coast Suns is a successful one.
“I have a lot of respect for him (Karmichael Hunt) and he has taken a huge gamble by switching to AFL,” Sailor said.
“But, I hope it is a success. I watched him the other night and I sent him a text before the game saying ‘best of luck’.
“I know how much pressure I felt switching to rugby union and the pressure on him would be even bigger than that but I hope he really does well.”
Like Sailor, Tuqiri played for the Wallabies and the Kangaroos and, while he didn’t catch any of Hunt’s debut, he wished him all the best.
“I didn’t get to see the game but I know Karmichael is trying his guts out,” Tuqiri said.
“Even to get to start in the game is a great achievement and I hope he succeeds.
“He is an exceptional athlete and when you look at he has now played all three codes in about 18 months.”
Unlike Sailor and Tuqiri, former Queensland Maroons legend Gary Belcher had little interest in Hunt’s endeavours.
“I’m not an AFL fan so I’m not worried about what is going on in the game,” Belcher said.
“As far as I’m concerned he (Hunt) is playing the wrong game.
“I guess if anyone is going to make a go of it though it’ll be him.
“The only other thing I’d say is I doubt you’ll ever see it go the other way. I highly doubt we will ever see an AFL player make a successful switch to rugby league.”
