A TAXI has ploughed into pedestrians near London tourist hotspot Covent Garden.

Four victims were hit by the black cab in central London after it mounted the pavement at around 5pm local time.
Cops have confirmed the crash is not being treated as terror-related, reports The Sun.

A man was treated for a serious leg injury and three other suffered minor injuries.

Twitter users have reported a heavy armed police presence and reported the streets around the Lyceum Theatre have been closed to the public.

Dramatic pictures show the cab on the pavement with crowds watching the horrific incident unfold.

Witnesses have reported that several shops in the area have been evacuated.
Twitter user Fiona Yelland wrote: "Taxi crash in Covent Garden.

"Caught up in the panic and heart is in my mouth, but so lucky to have not been any closer. Praying for others.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police were called at 17:01hrs on Wednesday, 1 November to reports of a taxi in collision with pedestrians in Southampton Street, WC2.

"Officers and the other emergency services attended the scene."

They added: "We are aware of injuries but await further confirmation.

"The driver of the taxi stopped at the scene and has been detained by police.

"This is being treated as a serious road traffic collision, and not thought to be terrorist-related."

And London Ambulance released a statement saying: "We sent a number of ambulance crews to the scene including an incident response officer, specialist responders, motorbike and advanced paramedics.

"The trauma team from London's Air Ambulance also attended by car.

"We worked closely with other members of the emergency services at the scene and treated a total of four patients.

"A man was treated for a serious leg injury and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.

"Two other patients were treated for minor injuries and also taken to hospital. A fourth patient was checked over at the scene."
