Green waste pile on top of scrap metal catches fire

FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the Gracemere landfill after an area caught fire yesterday afternoon.

A green waste pile caught fire before the blaze spread to a scrap metal pile at the site.

It was extinguished when Queensland Fire and Rescue attended the scene.

Rockhampton Regional Council said as with many fires at landfill sites, the blaze took some time to fully contain.

The Rockhampton Regional Council said they would monitor the site throughout the night.
