Rival gang brawl in Yeppoon

TWO brothers allegedly kicked a man in the head, breaking both sides of his jaw during an “all-in-brawl” that started after two rival coast gangs clashed in Yeppoon.

The fight happened outside a Magpie Avenue home on February 6 where a going away party was being held.

The party was for Jade May Hornsby’s brother and it was Ms Hornsby’s partner, Nathan Reynolds, who was allegedly bashed.

Ms Hornsby gave evidence during a committal hearing in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday for Ricky and Daniel Vaughan who are charged with assaulting her partner.

Near the night’s end up to 50 gate crashers were outside Ms Hornsby’s mother’s home.

The court heard some were from Emu Park, known as Parkies, and others were from Yeppoon, known as Poonies.

Ms Hornsby said Mr Reynolds and her cousin, Ben Groves, went out to tell the gatecrashers to leave.

That’s when Daniel alleged punched Mr Reynolds.

An “all-in-brawl” erupted and Ms Hornsby claims Ricky and Daniel kicked and punched Mr Reynolds in the face.

Ms Hornsby’s cousin Ben was allegedly punched in the face by one of the brothers, prompting her uncle, Leo Groves, to step in.

Leo was allegedly assaulted by one of the brothers and suffered a fractured skull.

Mr Reynolds’ jaw was fractured on both sides and Ben suffered face injuries.

Daniel is charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm, Ricky with two counts of grievous bodily harm, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one of public nuisance.
