Bloody account from violent Rockhampton hotel bash victim

THE victim of an alleged violent Rockhampton hotel room bashing yesterday told a court he escaped his attackers by fleeing down a fire escape.

Recalling his ordeal, Sam William Bradshaw told the Rockhampton District Court blood was squirting from his face as he pushed open the fire escape to get away.

Patrick Lloyd Swayn (pictured) yesterday pleaded not guilty to one count of entering a dwelling and one count of grievous bodily harm in relation to the alleged attack at the Leichhardt Hotel on November 3, 2012.

In his opening statement, Crown Prosecutor Sam Bain said Swayn and an accomplice, Tyrone Wilson, broke into Mr Bradshaw's room and assaulted him.

Mr Bain said the pair entered the room and punched the victim.

"This was an unprovoked assault," he said.

Mr Bradshaw gave evidence yesterday. He said he booked a room that night and that his friend had a room on the same floor.

"We had drinks in my friend's room before we went to the Zodiac at 10pm," he said.

"Swayn and Wilson were at the club. I left between 3.30am and 4am after I hurt my leg. I went up to my room and fell asleep."

The court heard Mr Bradshaw woke to bangs at the door but ignored them.

"The bangs got louder and the door flung open so I jumped up," he said.

"Wilson and Swayn were in the doorway coming towards me. Wilson hit me twice. Swayn came over the top of Wilson and punched me in my jaw four times.

"I pushed past them and fled down the fire escape. Swayn followed me and yelled 'I'll hit you again if you leave'."

The court heard Mr Bradshaw was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with a broken jaw.

He said he returned to the hotel to find his shirt, hat, alcohol and $200 missing.

The trial continues before Judge Helen Bowskill today.
