Boat goes up in flames near Bribie

A BOAT has caught fire and drifted into shallow water on the northern tip of Bribie Island.

Media has reported a man who was on board has managed to make it to shore.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two fire fighters had been taken to the boat by the Caloundra Coast Guard, where they used a portable pump to put out the fire.

The boat ran into trouble about four kilometres to the north east of the island sometime before 3.30pm, the spokeswoman said.

Caloundra Coast Guard Base Commander Tony Barker said it was understood the fire had burnt through the boat's anchor rope, causing it to drift into the shallows.

He said it was believed no one was seriously injured.
