Bob the builder's heatwave therapy
YEPPOON builder Bob Ball is as tough as an old boot.
The sturdy construction worker is looking at today's Rockhampton heat with a positive outlook. It was supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year and while it has reached 38 degrees, Bob reckons it's bearable conditions to work in.
"Today has been alright actually, it was much hotter last week," he said from his site on Alma St.
"We heard it was supposed to hit 40 plus degrees but I don't think it has.
"Even though it is still hot, it is not unbearable like last week."
Bob's message to all slaving away in the heat, stay hydrated.
"My esky has to be full of water bottles and water melon, can't have beers like the old days," he said.
"You just need to have plenty of water, it's as simple as that, then you jump in the pool and crack a beer when you get home."
Bob's afternoon was in complete contrast to local mother Marcela Posada.
The Range resident was about to leave to do her Monday morning duties for when day when she paused before leaving.
She looked up at the dark, grey skies building and thought it might rain.
She didn't quite expect the level that Rockhampton copped this morning, nearly catching her out.
"I was just dropping my daughter off at the childcare now I am off home," Marcela said.
"I remember looking up at the sky and thinking maybe it will rain today but I didn't actually expect it would.
"I didn't bring an umbrella or anything, but luckily I didn't get too wet, neither did my daughter.
"I did enjoy the rain, it was nice. It is too dry sometimes, a little bit of rain mixed in is nice. I like this rain and I like the sun, when it is too hot you can't relax.
"Hopefully it sticks around for a few days."
