Boccia challenge thrown down

BOCCIA: A challenge has been thrown down to all local Boccia players with the inclusion of Jo Morgan in this year's Central Queensland Boccia Championship.

The championship will be held today at the Capricorn Basketball gymnasium at Yeppoon, and while the locals will be out there to win, they also have the opportunity to test themselves out against one of the better players from the south-east corner.

Brisbane-based Morgan will be in the area and therefore will test players of the calibre of Rockhampton duo Helena Kidd and Jo Smith said Michael Oxley from Sporting Wheelies.

“There will be seven players, in all, competing in this year's Central Queensland Boccia Championship,” Oxley announced.

“It is exciting to hear people from outside the area are coming.”

Along with Kidd and Smith will be a previous champion Christine Herold.

The Sporting Wheelies have been trying to increase numbers on the coast and Herold is a part of that initiative along with Jacob Mann.

One of the younger players at the event will be Rockhampton's Corey Lawton and it will be an experience for him competing against seasoned opposition.

Oxley said play will begin today at 10am and continue until 1pm.

The finals will then be staged during the afternoon session beginning at 2pm.
