Booval man with serious head injury after assault at Surfers

POLICE are investigating the serious assault of a 17-year old Ipswich man at Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning.

Just after midnight the man was standing with a group of friends at the corner of Markwell Avenue and Northcliffe Terrace when another group of males approached them.

One of the males in the second group became aggressive towards the man and punched him in the face causing him to hit his head on the ground.

The second group of males fled the scene.

The man who is from Booval was transported and admitted to Gold Coast University Hospital for a serious head injury.

Investigations are continuing.
