Bowlers are ready for a challenge
LAWN BOWLS: Will North Rockhampton be the dominant club in the Classic Challenge once more?
That is the big question as the Central Queensland District Men’s Bowls Association released the fixtures for the 2010 competition, beginning early in January.
Speaking for the CQDMBA, Denis Bartlem said the competition this year has thrown up a few interesting possibilities.
While holders North Rockhampton will again be strong, Bartlem said there could be a few in the draw to mount a challenge.
“Victoria Park has never played in the competition and could be the surprise package,” he said.
“While Yeppoon always provide hard competition.”
The Classic Challenge involves a team for singles (31 up), 2 x doubles (21 ends), 2 bowl triples (31 ends) and fours (25 ends). Match wins are decided by the most game wins.
Unfortunately Bartlem has been out of action and may miss this year’s competition.
“I’ll be back playing but I’m a selector at North Rockhampton and not certain I’d be able to select myself,” he said.
While Bartlem is a good player, he said there are many at the club making selection for places in the NRBC team very competitive.CLASSIC CHALLENGE FIXTURES
