Boxer's family denies crash rumours
THE family of boxer Alex Slade has vehemently denied rumours that head injuries sustained in a car accident may have contributed to the teenager's mystery death in the ring.
Slade, 19, will be buried in Noosa today as his shattered family continue to seek answers as to why the seemingly fit and healthy teenager collapsed into a coma after a fight in Mackay earlier this month.
He slumped to the canvas after the amateur bout was halted in the fourth and final round of what witnesses have described as a competitive contest in which Slade showed no signs of initial distress. He never regained consciousness and died in Townsville Hospital on October 9.
Police are continuing their investigations and preparing a report for the coroner.
