Brawlers are ready to roll on the Dolls at PCYC this weekend

ROCKHAMPTON Roller Derby's Beef City Brawlers squad are set to go head-to-head with the Rum City Derby Dolls at the YWCA this weekend.

Roller Derby action will return to the YWCA on Saturday night as Rocky Roller Derby hosts their first major bout of the year.

With a 15-strong squad, the Beef City Brawlers will take on a Bundaberg team of 11 derby dolls in the first clash between the two cities.

Rocky Roller Derby representative Megs Anderson, more commonly know around the rink as "Sin'da Hell'her" said despite not having competed against the Rum City team before, she had heard good things about the club and expected them to bring some good competition.

"They are a good team," Anderson said.

"We've been going for a little while this season, but this is our first big bout for this team; training has been going well, we've been working hard."

Anderson said with a number of new girls joining the Rocky Roller Derby ranks this season, the club was looking stronger than ever and it had a few competitions lined up over the next couple of months.

"We've had a heap of new girls come through and they are doing really great. It is very much so a growing sport, more so this year, we have about four newcomers," she said.

"A couple of our girls are travelling up to Townsville between June 6 and 10 for a big carnival happening up there and we will be heading down to Bundy in about month to do a follow-up bout at their home ground but there is always something popping up every month to compete in."

Anderson urged the community to get behind the event which kicks off at 6.30pm at the YWCA on Saturday night.

"Come down and support us, the more that we can get seeing it and interested in it the bigger it will be," she said.

"Doors open at 5.30pm and we start bouting at 6.30pm, you can get your tickets at Oztix for $3.50 or you can get them at the door, there will be a bar and food available."
