Wind gusts hit 156kmh as severe storms/hail lash CQ

5.30pm, BOM warning issued:  Destructive winds up to 156kmh were recorded at Moranbah at 5.20pm and 4-5cm hail was reported at Dysart (north of Emerald) at 3:30pm as a storm super cell rolls across CQ.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West and Capricornia districts.

Locations which may be affected include Emerald, Proserpine, Blackwater, Moranbah, Rolleston, Baralaba, Springsure, St Lawrence and Sarina. 

 

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
