WATCH: 'I didn't think': Hero tradie storms Gladstone home

UPDATE:

A QUICK-THINKING, fearless tradie stormed a Gladstone home engulfed in flames to check if anyone was stranded inside.

Daniel Wilson's lunchbreak was thrown into chaos when he saw smoke billowing from a nearby street.

The tradie rushed back to Starmer Court where he saw a home up in flames.

"I turned into the street and slammed my handbrake on," he said.

"Then I realised it was coming out of the house instead of the backyard, or something normal like that.

"There were flames coming out of what I think was the kitchen window and then the windows started bursting and breaking.

"To me it looked like an old person's house so I was a bit worried an old person was in the there."

Mr Wilson quickly called 000, handed his phone on to another passer-by to alert authorities, and then entered the fiery home.

"I ran into the house, through the front door," he said. "[I was] calling out for anyone in there. [I only] made it to the first room. The smoke was too thick so I turned around.

"I didn't really think. I just went straight in there."

"I don't know about a hero," he said. "Just doing what anyone would do.

"I didn't know there wasn't anyone inside because I couldn't get to the other rooms and I was stressing out about that for a while."

Mr Wilson and the other passer-by then ran to the back of the house.

"We kicked the back door in and checked down in the lower area [of the home], checked if anyone was in there," he said.

"[But] we couldn't find anyone.

"So next step was to grab the garden hose from the neighbours and put out the fire.

"There was a lot of debris stacked up…and I wanted to make sure that didn't get burnt and transfer over to the neighbours homes so I wet it down.

"The hose wasn't really much of a help but it was better than nothing else."

Firefighters have confirmed no one was inside the home. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

One neighbouring property is vacant while the residents in the other neighbouring property left their home to help fight the fire.
