Man critical after highway motorbike crash

UPDATE: A SARINA man, 47, is in a critical condition after a motorbike crash on the Bruce Highway this morning.

Initial investigations indicate about 6.30am, a motorcycle travelling north on the  Highway and a 4WD turning right onto the Bruce Highway from Homebush Road have collided.

The rider of the motorbike received serious chest and head injuries and was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition.

The 51-year-old female driver of the other car was not injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating what caused the crash.

 

Saturday 9:30:  A MAN, 46, is in a critical condition after a motorbike crash on the Bruce Highway this morning.

Paramedics stumbled across the scene while travelling along the highway towards Sarina.

It is not yet known what injuries the man has, though a Queensland Police spokesperson said when paramedics arrived he was "not conscious but breathing".

He was taken to the Mackay Base Hospital. 

Traffic has backed up on the highway but cars are being diverted through Eversleigh Rd.

INITIAL: A crash has closed the Bruce Highway this morning.

It's believed to be a multi-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway at the intersection with Homebush Sarina Rd.

Cars are being diverted through Eversleigh Rd.

Emergency services are on site and drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.

It's understood the highway could be closed for several hours. There are reports of a motorbike involved in the accident, although that hasn't been confirmed.
