Machinery will return to Maroochydore beach this week for sand rejuvenation work.

"This section of coastline suffered some erosion as a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia and these nourishment works are needed to ensure the beach is in a safe and optimal condition for the State Surf Lifesaving Championships from March 27 to 29," Cr O'Pray said.

"These works will be carried out by large machinery so sections of the foreshore will need to be temporarily restricted for public access however council will endeavour to keep this disruption to a minimum.

"Major events like the Surf Championships deliver a great deal for the coast's economy so it's important that council carries out these works."

All sand nourishment works will be carried out in accordance with State Government permits.
