Brittany is race day ready in her own creation

YEPPOON'S Brittany Lester loves everything fashion.

For the local millinery designer, the right hat or headpiece can pull off an entire outfit and the everyday sunhat can be bedazzled in minutes by some feathers, gemstones and lace.

Brittany, 26, has designed women's races headwear since starting her own side business last year, Millinery by Brittany Shea.

But today she'll be her own model as she steps out on Flemington Racecourse and immerses herself in one of the nation's biggest fashion events, the Melbourne Cup.

Brittany said she would be in her element today at the race that stops the nation.

"This is my first Melbourne Cup so I'm really excited to experience it in person," she said.

"It's such a big fashion event every year and to be there in person, wearing my own creation, is something I'm really looking forward to.

"The main reason I'm going to the Melbourne Cup is for the fashion. It's all about the fashions and being surrounded by what I love."

Brittany has spent months making her headpiece and was even shopping for last-minute bits and pieces yesterday afternoon.

"It's made out of lace, gemstones and Swarovski crystals. It's like a metallic silver which is the same colour as the dress I had made," she said.

Brittany has recently started her own website called Birdie and Bow, aimed at bringing designers from all over Australia together to sell their products.

STYLE TIPS:
