Broich expects Roar to cover Berisha loss

FOOTBALL: Playmaker Thomas Broich says the Brisbane Roar is not panicking, despite not having the services of Besart Berisha.

The Roar was unable to score a winning goal in the second half against Sydney FC last Friday night, leaving the game 1-all, after the star striker was forced from the field.

Receiving a red card, Berisha will now also miss Saturday night's Suncorp Stadium blockbuster against the Melbourne Victory, where a Brisbane win will secure it the Premiers' Plate.

But Broich predicted his team could cover Berisha, who is the league's equal highest goalscorer this season with 11.

"Ricky (Henrique), Dimi (Dimitri Petratos) and myself need to put the goals away, (and) I'm really confident that we can do it," Broich said. "Ricky is a fantastic player. He's scored some really important goals for us this season and I'm confident he can do it again.

"We've got a lot of players that can score.

"I know we've been relying heavily on Bessy, but we've found other players to score the goals instead."

Left-sided player Corey Brown will also miss the game against the Victory after having surgery to remove his appendix on Monday night.

The 20-year-old reportedly stopped breathing following the emergency surgery at Brisbane's Wesley Hospital.

He was released from hospital yesterday and is expected to miss a month of football

Brown's absence from Saturday's game will put more of an onus on veteran Shane Stefanutto to control the Roar's flank attack.

"He (Brown) had a fantastic game in Sydney and he would have been an option too as a winger to replace Bessy, but he's in hospital unfortunately," Broich said.

"We all know Shane's passing game is spot-on and he's ruthless too as a defender. He is so flawless - I can't remember a single mistake."
