Brooke triumphs in surf title win

THERE was a triumph for Emu Park Surf Lifesaving representative Brooke Wacker at the North Australian Championships at the weekend.

Held at Mackay, it drew more than 700 athletes from Hervey Bay to Port Douglas.

The Emu Park ace was competing in the under-14 girls section and took the award as the female champion in her age group.

For the youngster, victory prevented the powerful Ellis Beach club from completing a near-whitewash as it took six of the nine age groups for females.

Another good result was recorded in the Male Masters section, in which Yeppoon athlete Matthew Cumming was victorious.

With 66 athletes competing, Ellis Beach was the most successful team at the championships, but Emu Park and Yeppoon can be satisfied with the results.

Emu Park finished seventh, one place above the host team, while Yeppoon was 12th.
