Brothers rip into Sharks

RUGBY LEAGUE: Talented lock Chris Gesch starred for Rockhampton Brothers in a 72-16 thumping of Fitzroy Gracemere in Saturday's Senior rugby league action.

Gesch scored twice and looked dangerous each time he touched the ball as the Brethren put the Sharks to the sword.

Fullback Anthony Raymond picked up three tries while centre Mitch Collins and halfback Reece Baker both scored two apiece.

It was a pleasing performance for Steve Parle, who took the team for the day with A-grade coach Scott Bodley away.

“We handed too much ball over with players taking liberties when we got in front,” Parle said.

“When we play Yeppoon we can't afford to drop as much ball.”

In the other game Yeppoon were too strong for Norths, winning 32-14.

Yeppoon coach John Harbin said his side put together its best half for the season in the first period, going to the leading 24-4.

Front-rower Tim Harlow led from the front and was rewarded with two tries.

“After 20 minutes the scores were still locked at nil-all,” Harbin said.

“We really made our killing in the latter part of the half ... it was pretty much a faultless display.”

He said Norths, featuring Comets trio Brent Williams Clint Rothery and Marc Applegarth, stuck to their task in a closer second half.

Norths player Will Glasby said, apart from the period before half-time, the side put in a good performance.

Front-rower Matt Jarvis impressed for Norths.
