Bruce Hwy petition tabled today

8.40am: MICHELLE Leeson’s petition calling for a safety audit of the Bruce Highway between Mackay and Rockhampton will be tabled at the Mackay sitting of State Parliament today.

The petition, organised by Ms Leeson who lost her parents Peter and Diane Burridge and siblings Mark and Kristy in a car accident on the highway on Australia Day this year, calls for a detailed safety audit of the notoriously dangerous stretch of road.

Local LNP Member for Mirani Ted Malone will table the petition and he said Ms Leeson’s efforts to push for safety improvements had galvanised local communities with more than 5000 signatures collected.

Mr Malone said her family was travelling from Sarina to Gympie to attend a funeral when the accident occurred on a dangerous section at Etna Creek north of Rockhampton.

“The petition calls on Parliament to undertake a detailed safety audit and analysis of the highway between Rockhampton and Mackay,” Mr Malone said.
