REVEALED: Bruce Highway most dangerous road in Queensland

EARLIER in the year the Bruce Hwy made it to the top of the list of the state's most dangerous roads.

The Unroadworthy Roads Survey conducted by RACQ in March labelled the Bruce Hwy as the region's worst road, based on the number of complaints by Queenslanders.

According to the RACQ executive manager Paul Turner, it wasn't a surprise.

"Unsurprisingly, the Bruce Hwy tops the list of the most complained about roads," Mr Turner said.

"The Bruce Hwy was nominated due to the rough, narrow conditions, congestion and sections which are constantly cut off by flood waters."

Flynn MP Ken O'Dowd said after the weekend's weather event, sections of the highway were badly damaged, including the 2km section between Bob's Creek and Bajool, and a small section near Benaraby.

Mr O'Dowd said rehabilitation and widening work on the Bruce Hwy, between Bajool and Midgee is expected to begin in the next six months under the $30 million Bruce Highway Safety Package.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson confirmed work crews were expected to be in place until the weekend, weather permitting.

"We have crews carrying out emergency surface repairs along the Bruce Highway from Bob's Creek to Bajool as a result of the damage sustained during recent wet weather."
