Bulls catch Roos on the hop
THERE'S no stopping the Glenmore Bulls as they charge into the Easter break.
The Bulls are sitting second on the Trend Interiors Carpet and Tile Court Premiership ladder after three rounds of competition and coach Ross Borg is confident his troops are where they need to be at this time of the year.
Undefeated to start the season, the Bulls continued their winning run on Saturday afternoon against local rivals Brothers Roos in the Brethren's first match at home this season.
On a sandy Kele Park, Bulls' Toby Payne (4 goals), brother Darcy (3) and Derek Mangan (3) led the way in the 25-point win.
“Certainly Darcy Payne was a standout. He kicked a couple of telling goals in the third quarter,” Borg said. “Tyson Payne got his hands on the ball a lot, but Derek Mangan was probably our best player on the day.”
The Payne brothers – Toby, Darcy and Tyson – have been rewarded for the blistering start to the season and join club vice-captain Aaron Russell in the AFL Capricornia squad for the match against Bundaberg on April 30.
Following the weekend's match, the Bulls have a fortnight's break before their next fixture, and the toughest test of the season so far, against BITS Saints on May 7 at Boyne Island Oval.
BITS are undefeated competition leaders after two massive wins on the trot. They kicked 26 goals in their 106-point win over Gladstone Mudcrabs at the weekend, to follow up their 253-point win over Panthers a week before.
“I don't have any hopes of winning that match by a lot,” Borg admitted.
