Burnley, Newcastle in top half of table after EPL wins

BURNLEY striker Chris Wood has piled the pressure on Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer after a 1-0 victory at Turf Moor.

The defeat was Palace's fourth in a row to begin the English Premier League season and the London side is now second bottom of the ladder without a goal.

Palace dominated the game, however, having 23 shots to the home side's four but could not break its scoring drought, while New Zealand international Wood scored his second goal of the season.

"I cannot believe we lost, there is still frustration about the result but not about our performance," said de Boer.

"The only thing we didn't do was score."

Burnley moved into the top half of the table and were joined there by Newcastle United, which had a 1-0 success at Swansea.

Captain Jamaal Lascalles cleared off the line to deny Tammy Abraham an opener for the home side before scoring from a powerful header to take the Magpies into 10th.

"The boys were excellent today," Lascalles told the BBC.

"We knew it would be a tough game. These are the teams we need to beat. They are a good side but we were the better team on the day."

Swansea has lost both of its home games and fall to 15th place.

"Although the margin of the defeat is small, I'm really disappointed with our performance," Swans manager Paul Clement said.

"I'm really not satisfied with the way we played."
