Bush Curlew serves up success in final

TENNIS: The Bush Curlew team of Wayne Houston, Paul Donovan, Merv Bidgood and Cooper Wright has soared to victory in the Division 1 final of the Rockhampton Tennis Association's Saturday afternoon doubles comp.

They overcame club mates Stone Curlew (Barry Harth, Allan Harwood, Ben Funch and Jeff Shillam) to win the decider 42-37.

Played in extreme heat, the action on-court was also hot with great volleying and plenty of baseline duels.

There was only a few games in it with several sets decided in tie-breakers, and the result hung in the balance until the last set.

In Division 2, it was an all-Delwood affair, with Delwood Green (Greg Stuart, Dave Doherty, Adam Walker and Jacob McLucas) defeating Delwood Blue (Peter Lawn, Darren Dunbar, Maverick Dunbar and Calum Gauci) 37-30.

Although Delwood Blue featured upcoming juniors, the greater doubles experience of Delwood Green proved the difference between the two teams.
