Cousins getting into business together was ‘meant to be’
MARINA and Loretta George spent plenty of time together as kids in Rockhampton.
It was their careers that took them to different ends of the country as adults and away from their hometown.
But when life brought them both back to the Beef Capital, it was a no-brainer for the cousins to get into business together.
Marina, who works in natural health, had lived near Sydney for years with her own business.
When she came back to Rockhampton in 2013 to be with family, she knew before long her business would be back up and running.
After a chat with her cousin Loretta, they decided to take the leap and open the door to their two respective businesses.
Marina owns MG Natural Health and Beauty Solutions, focusing on massages, acupuncture and hypnotherapy among other services.
Marina originally started her career in nursing and said she wanted to find a "better way to do things" and that's when she made the decision to get into natural health nearly 30 years ago.
She opened the Rockhampton business two months ago and says the region has a great market for natural health.
She says a lot has changed in Rockhampton in the 30 years she's been away, including the natural health industry which residents have taken a liking to.
Meanwhile, Loretta is a trained psychologist and was ready to broaden her practice; she opened the business Tilly's Yumba.
"I feel very honoured that people share their stories with me," she said.
Loretta's lease was coming due at her old location and with Marina looking to get back into work, opening up their businesses was an easy step.
Loretta said that going into business with her cousin was simply "meant to be".
