BUSTED: Driver caught speeding twice in 15 mins on CQ hwy

A 25-YEAR-old driver was caught speeding twice in 15 minutes by two different patrolling police officers.

The Charters Towers man was intercepted by police today while travelling at 119km/hr in a 100km/hr zone along the Peak Downs Hwy.

The man was issued with a $266 fine and had three demerit points attached to his driver's licence.

About 14 minutes later, the man was again intercepted by different police also patrolling Peak Downs Hwy, where he was allegedly driving at 119 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The man was again issued with a fine of $266 and had a further three demerit points attached to his driver's licence.

Senior Sergeant Adam Dyer said the man was intercepted both times between Coppabella and Moranbah.

Police from Moranbah, Nebo and Eton were out on patrol on the Peak Downs Highway from about 6am between Eton and Moranbah to ensure the safety of all road users and detect unsafe drivers.

Snr Sgt Dyer said driving at high speed was incredibly reckless and placed other road users at risk.

“The proactive response from police shows that we are working as hard as possible to keep our roads safe for all users,” he said.

“Throughout the festive season there will be a high visibility police presence on the Peak Downs Highway to ensure the safety of all road users.

“Just because you pass one police car doesn’t mean there isn’t another one around the corner.

“We are reminding all drivers to remember the fatal five, drive to the road conditions and at all times stick to the speed limit.”
