Busy bodies get mucking in today in Livingstone

RESIDENTS with a bit of time up their sleeves today will put their hands to good use with the clean-up in Livingstone.

In the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Marcia, many residents put down their names for Livingstone's Lend-a-Hand Day today, between 7am and 2pm.

Mayor Bill Ludwig is calling for all able hands to rally and help residents who are physically or medically unable to help themselves.

"While we recognise that the majority of residents have their clean-up under way, there are some residents who may, without the community's assistance, really struggle to manage on their own," Cr Ludwig said.

"These residents may be disadvantaged or without access to friends or family to help and their need for assistance has been identified by the Local Disaster Management Group's social and human services recovery sub-committee.

"Bring plenty of water and sunscreen."

If you know someone who is unable to clear vegetation from their property for physical or medical reasons, have them contact council's community development officer on 0427 813 957 between 9am and 3pm to discuss potential assistance.
