New business owner impressed with Buy Local campaign group
IN ALL her years of working in retail, Wendy Wass says she's never worked in such a tight-knit and supportive business community.
Opening only six weeks ago, the Crooked Cubby owner told the Capricorn Coast Mirror last week she was very impressed with the local group, Shop 4703.
Shop 4703 is a group of local businesses based on the Capricorn Coast that decided to work together to enhance the village feel of Yeppoon, and create opportunities for the community and each other.
"They've welcomed me with open arms and it's really important to get some information from local traders who have been doing it for a long time before me," she said.
"I'm sure I've got a lot to learn from them."
Selling children and babies boutique wear, blankets, toys, handmade gifts, bikes and more in James St, Wendy was looking forward to showcasing her new collection as part of the upcoming Shop 4703 Christmas shopping evening tours.
The tours were a huge success for shoppers and businesses last year and also promote Member for Keppel's Buy Local campaign.
"When people spend money in local stores that money is flowing directly into the local economy and that has great benefits," Mrs Lauga said.
"We need to make sure that the dollars that are earned in this region continue to circulate throughout our economy.
"Wendy said when it came to a thriving local economy, it was a two way street between shoppers and businesses.
"Buying local is really important, we really need to all band together because without them (customers) we don't survive and without us community groups find it difficult to fundraise and things like that," she said.
