LARRY and Christine Finn have put one of Rockhampton’s most picturesque pubs up for sale.

Built in 1895, The Lakes Creek Hotel is a fine example of Victorian Free Gothic architecture.

And it’s reportedly got its own ghost ... Gideon.

The hotel’s former caretakers reported Gideon’s presence in the late 1980s.

They said he was a friendly ghost that lived in the chimney of a room painted dark grey. It is believed Gideon is the ghost of a man killed in the stables many years before.

Larry said this story was just one of many in the hotel’s fascinating history. The Lakes Creek Hotel was established to provide a venue for the everyday person, particularly travellers between Rockhampton and Emu Park, people in the nearby community and the local meatworkers.

Little has changed.

Larry and Christine have owned the hotel since 2007.

They are considering either a sale or leasing it on. Larry said the hotel was popular among its locals.

It boasts a large bar, 12 rooms upstairs, a drive-through, TAB, eight pokies and is Keno-approved.

There’s a big beer garden too. The hotel turns over $1,364,000 a year.

Expressions of interest close on May 16.
