Calf escapes horse float and rampages through street
QUICK-THINKING passers-by prevented what could have turned out to be a nasty highway incident in Warwick this afternoon after a calf jumped out of a moving horse float heading down Albion St.
A frenetic chase ensued at about 1.30pm from Beaurepaires at the corner of Condamine St and around the back roads near the river green belt, with the calf bounding down behind Ryanie For Tyres and through the park to be almost back out on the highway.
Half a dozen helpers managed to steer the terrified Limousin heifer calf into the covered parking bays at the rear of Cafe Jacqui's and performed some deft rope and tie work.
The red-faced owner said she had thought about transporting the calf in a trailer but decided to use the horse float as she felt sure the calf, only a few months old, would not be able to jump out.
