Call for action on signs for Rockhampton CBD car parks

COUNCILLOR Rose Swadling has expressed concern that signs alerting drivers to paid parking at two Rockhampton CBD car parks have not yet been erected.

"Paid parking starts next week and the signs aren't up," she said at Tuesday's performance and service committee meeting. "We asked for this over six weeks ago."

The Rockhampton Regional Council will introduce paid parking at the Pilbeam Theatre car park and the car park on the corner of Derby and Alma Sts from Monday.

Council CEO Evan Pardon said permanent signage would be erected this week.

"Council has communicated paid parking with regular users of the car park and the wider community for the past month, which included weekly radio and print ads, radio and print interviews, posters at the theatre and art gallery, and notices placed on parked vehicles," he said.

HOW IT WORKS

Parking rates will be 70 cents an hour or $5 a day, with weekly passes available for $20 a week.

Car park fees will apply between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Pay stations will be introduced and vehicle owners have to display the tickets on their dashboards.
