Callide Valley Garden Lovers' time for tea and fundraising

GROWING support in the Banana Shire can take root in many ways and the Callide Valley Garden Lovers recently hosted a cent sale and morning tea to raise money for cancer research.

The local community group hosted an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea to help raise money for the not-for-profit Cancer Council Queensland to fund the organisation's research, prevention and support services.

Callide Valley Garden Lovers spokeswoman Jo Grummitt said the day was a great success.

"We had the event on May 8 at Del Cavanagh's Jambin Property and the support for the fundraiser was great,”

Jo said.

"All of our members brought along plants for a giant multi-draw and there was about 150 to 200 plants donated.

About 50 people who attended on the day helped the group to raise $986.70.

"The group did this because we have all been touched in some way by cancer and we do this every year,” Jo said.

The busy group is not going to let the grass grow under its feet with more activities planned.

"In June, our next meeting is on the second Wednesday and will be at Hinton Lane, Thangool and its just a gathering of people who like gardens and gardening,”

Jo said.
