Angry protesters greet Premier at Community Cabinet meeting

ABOUT 200 angry protesters braved the rain at Maryborough's Brolga Theatre on Sunday as Premier Campbell Newman came to the Fraser Coast to host a Community Cabinet meeting.

Maryborough union organiser Ron Fossen led the charge as ambulance officers, health workers and firefighters joined in to voice their objections to cuts to jobs and funding made by the LNP government.

Boos, whistles and jibes greeted the arrival of each member of the State Government's Cabinet.

Amid cries of "stop the lies" from the protesters, Shane Malley from the Queensland United Firefighters' Union told the crowd the emergency services personnel had proven their worth as the state battled bushfires and floods over the past few months.

He called the cost cutting a "blatant attack" on the fire service.

"This is not about money, this is about safety and work conditions," he said.

The protesters were praised for coming out in the heavy rain to have their say.

The protesters voiced their anger at the privatisation of Maryborough nursing home Yaralla Place and the loss of Maryborough Hospital's Pathology Unit.

Katter's Australian Party candidate Gordon Dale was also present and encouraged those in attendance to vote the government out at the next election.

Member for Maryborough Anne Maddern said the protesters had not put a dampener on hosting the community cabinet and added that she respected their right to protest.
