Capricorn Coast home makes its national television debut
YEPPOON'S Glen Finning never thought the Lammermoor home he built for his family of four would feature in a national television program.
But that's exactly what's going to happen in September when the local builder's 650sqm two-storey house will appear on Gary Takle's Build Me A Home television show on Foxtel Lifestyle.
The modern four-bedroom home boasts ocean views of Great Keppel Island, a pool, outdoor gymnasium, cinema room and 120sqm kitchen.
Glen, owner of Metro Builders, said he started building the house nine months ago.
"I started building the house for a family home but also to act as a show piece for what I can do as a builder," he said.
"The Build Me A Home approached me to be part of the show after they saw the floor plan of the house so we got together and it went from there. It's all snowballed really but it will be great exposure for the town.
"I think the grandness of the house and its architectural design is what attracted the show. It was built outside Australian standards, there were no codes for the plan of the house so I was able to do what I wanted."
Glen, 33, said he couldn't believe his home was going to be seen by all of Australia.
"The main reason I accepted to be on the show was to bring some positivist to the local market because we live in such a great place," he said.
"It's also nice for me, a local builder, to get this type of exposure too so it's all very exciting."
The final scenes of the show were filmed inside the $2.6million home yesterday.
Mr Takle, host of Channel Seven's Australia's Best House's and Build Me A Home, said he was attracted to the house months before it was built.
"The house took our fancy because of the modern design, its location and it's very innovative in the way it's been designed," Mr Takle said.
"It's not often you see living upstairs, it's a very unique design but it just works. Plus the build of this house has a real story, we were here when the cyclone came through which is a big part of Glen's story, it's all about the process this house has been through.
"Yeppoon is an upcoming area and there's a lot of development going on here, you can see some bucks being spent. To get a $2.6million home in Yeppoon is a lot of money, it's a lot of money anywhere so that says something about the area and what people are willing to pay to live here."
The Build Me A Home episode will go to air on Foxtel Lifestyle in September with a date yet to be released.
