Cap Coast rally but Harmsworth plays lead role

CRICKET: Despite a late season revival, Cap Coast Parkana bowed out of contention in the Rockhampton A-grade competition.

Their four wicket loss to Gracemere on Saturday meant it will be a repeat grand final with the Bulls meeting Frenchville.

Needing a win, Cap Coast batted first and posted 10-141. Opener Shaun Gilvear and middle order batsman Josh Davidson tops scored with 34. Keeper Gerard Moriarty chipped in with 24*.

Gracemere's Todd Harmsworth continued his incredible form with the willow and is playing his way into player of the year category. He guided his side home 7-144.

Ash Colley took over captaincy duties from Richie Pershouse six weeks ago and saw an upward shift in results.

"For Gracemere, Mark O'Keeffe got 40-odd runs and Justin Peacock produced with the ball in hand,” he said.

"We had batted first and were right in the game, but Harmsworth's seventh wicket partnership got them over the line.

"He (Todd) is actually undefeated against us. We can't get him out. He is a man in great form and not giving away chances.”

Colley said the all-round performance from teenager Davidson was the stand-out of the day.

"He claimed 3-22 with his left arm orthodox. He bowled really well, beating the batsmen in flight,” he said.

"Then batted well too. It is unfortunate to bow out early but we will be back.”
