Capricorn Caves to stage Opera underground for music lovers

UNDERGROUND Opera Company's (UOC) director and founder Bruce Edwards has seen a number of tunnels and caves in his time - both as a miner and running UOC - however, he's never encountered a venue with the "almost perfect acoustics" the Capricorn Caves possess.

Because of this, Bruce is excited to announce the next season of Opera in the Caves, bringing his stellar cast back to Rockhampton with three shows only from November 6 - 8.

The performances will include popular arias and musical theatre showstoppers guaranteed to delight all types of audience members - from the opera aficionados to the unacquainted.

Bruce said performing in the caves made for a unique atmosphere, allowing UOC to remain true to its mantra of providing "extraordinary performances in breathtaking spaces".

"The caves began forming 390 million years ago and for us to perform here is truly an honour," he said.

"The majestic Cathedral Cave, set with church pews, provides only 90 audience members the most unique and intimate concert delivered by a line-up of world-class professionals featuring Glenn Lorimer, Darian Johns, Dominique Fegan and louise Dorsman, accompanied by Brendan Murtagh on piano.

"This intimacy allows the audience to engage with the performers and our performers to have a faceto-face relationship with the audience."

"We've loved bringing our concerts to the caves over the years, and we enjoy playing a part in ensuring this stunning location continues to be a thriving part of Rockhampton's tourism scene, while bringing top quality performers to the region," Bruce said.

"Holding our concerts in the caves makes for not only an evening of beautiful song, but also an adventure for guests as they venture underground, and into this stunning and acoustically brilliant performance space."

Discover the magic of UOC when it performs Opera in the Caves, sponsored by the Denison Boutique Hotel and Budget Car Rental, for three shows only; Friday November 6 (7.30pm), Saturday November 7 (7.30pm) and Sunday November 8 (3pm).
