Capricorn Claws come out on top in ripper weekend of sport
CENTRAL Queensland sports fans were treated to some fantastic local competition over the weekend with Aussie Rules, Rugby League, Soccer and Hockey contests in full swing.
In Queensland state league battles, the QGESS Capricorn Claws were the only side to come away from the weekend unscathed with a convincing 43-30 victory over Suncoast Lynx in the Mission Queensland Netball League.
The Central Queensland Capras were dealt a blow with a 46-6 loss in their clash against Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
Central Queensland Energy remained goal-less in their clash with Redlands United on Saturday night at Jardine Park with Redlands tieing up the encounter 5-0.
Aussie Rules: Capricornia Aussie Rules action retured to fields around the region over the weekend with BITS Saints retaining their A-grade league dominance and leading ladder position.
In a top of the table clash on Saturday, BITS Saints reaped the benefits of playing on home soil to take down Yeppoon Swans 102-54 at Boyne Island.
Also in the south, Gladstone Mudcrabs hosted cellar dwellars Brothers Roos' at Clinton Park to secure a 126-28 victory while Glenmore Bulls trounced Rockhampton Panthers 96-88 in a tight battle at Stenlake Park.
Rugby League: Rockhampton rugby league contests heated up on Saturday with Yeppoon Seagulls hosting Biloela at Yeppoon while on Sunday, Fitzroy Gracemere Sharks played Norths Chargers at Saleyards Park.
Saturday's Seagulls and Panthers clash saw Yeppoon take the victory 40-20 before the Sharks took down the Chargers 52-38 on Sunday afternoon.
Soccer: Clinton Premier proved why they are one of the toughest sides in the Central Queensland Premier League soccer competition on Saturday afternoon when they locked in a 9-1 win against Berserker.
Nerimbera made the roadtrip to Emerald over the weekend only to be pipped at the finish by the Eagles in a tight 4-3 battle while in the Central versus CQFC Energy encounter, Central were the victors 3-1.
Results of the Bluebirds versus Capricorn Coast and Frenchville versus Southside United clashes were not available at time of print.
Hockey: Rockhampton Hockey fixtures were in abundance at Kalka Shades on Saturday with some close clashes recorded in both the men's and women's A1 divisions.
In the A1 men, Southside United defeated Wanderers 3-1 while in the A1 women, Wanderers tied up a 4-2 victory over Southside.
