Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll misses out on Senate
ROCKHAMPTON'S Mary Carroll has been bypassed for preselection for the Liberal Nationals Senate position set to be vacated by Barnaby Joyce.
Former LNP Queensland treasurer Barry O'Sullivan was endorsed when the 200 LNP members voted at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre at the weekend.
The Capricorn Enterprise CEO was the only Rockhampton-based candidate.
Ms Carroll yesterday wished Mr O'Sullivan the best.
"While it would have been nice to have won it, it was an incredible experience," she said.
Mr O'Sullivan told the Daily Mercury that his "single focus" would be to change the government so things could get back on track for rural and regional Queensland.
Mr Joyce will contest the New South Wales lower house seat of New England at the Federal election.
The 12 candidates were Julie Boyd, Robert Ah Wing, Hon Larry Anthony, Cr Raymond Brown, Mary Carroll, Dr Theresa Craig, Clement Grehan, Richard Hackett-Jones, Barry O'Sullivan, Roderick Schneider, Georgina Somerset and Dr David Van Gend.
