Capricornia ALP candidacy is anyone’s race: Keppel MP

THE RACE for the seat of Capricornia is still open, according to Keppel MP Brittany Lauga.

The North Rockhampton ALP branch secretary and treasurer told The Morning Bulletin yesterday that the preselection process had not yet been completed and was a long way off.

Mrs Lauga said the process was yet to play out despite a Labor source claiming that Leisa Neaton had won critical left faction support from within the party.

"Leisa hasn't been endorsed as the candidate," Mrs Lauga said.

"Regardless of who the ALP candidate is in the next federal election, I'll be 100% supportive of them.

"I have confidence in the party's processes to preselect good candidates.

"I know we'll get the best candidate for the job and we have a really good sweep, which I think is a sign of good party processes and interest from the community in being active members of the ALP."
