Young driver lucky to survive after car overturns

A P-PLATE driver was lucky to escape serious injury after her car rolled onto its roof on Elphinstone St yesterday.

The 18-year-old woman was transported to Rockhampton Hospital with minor injuries following the crash.

The accident happened at about 9.15am at the corner of Elphinstone and Spike Streets.

An Elphinstone St resident, Amy Rowland, said she and a friend saw the crash happen and called police.

She said she saw another vehicle clip the 18-year-old's car, which then flipped and landed on its roof.

Ms Rowland said the crash "went off with a bang. It went up in the air and came straight down on its roof," she said.

Police directed traffic around the scene and kept the cars moving through Spike and Elphinstone Streets.
